Project description :
A visualisation of wind movement from Helsinki weather sensor data.
Smaller line in the top right shows a line that travels in the direction of the recorded wind movement. So, if the wind blows south, the line goes down, if it blows west, it goes left, etc..
The larger line is a zoomed-in view of the 'drawing tip' of the smaller line. It shows the current wind movements. In addition, the line moves faster and grows larger as the wind blows faster. The colour also indicates the wind temperature.
A purple "cross-line" appears at every midnight, to show the length of the different days wind movement.
The data is from a wind sensor at the top of the Olympic Tower in Helsinki, collected in 2007.
This work also evolved into the following works:
- a long trace version of this revealing longer wind tendencies.
- a first person rendition of what wind movement can feel like.
- a physical version of wind movement.
